Can alcohol IMPROVE your memory?
”A counter-intuitive phenomenon is that alcohol can actually have memory-enhancing effects ... The way it works is that when alcohol is consumed immediately after people are presented with material to learn, then subsequent recall is actually enhanced compared to a placebo.” ~Andrew Scholey (nootropic researcher) on the Nootralize Podcast
This is not the best strategy out there for cognitive enhancement since its very sensitive to dose and timing.
Only very low doses will yield this effect.
Alcohol may act as a stimulant in the beginning, and depressant the longer the drug has been in your body. It is therewith not unreasonable that at certain time points after low-dose alcohol consumption, your memory would be improved. Andrew Scholey has shown with his research that it is indeed the case that alcohol can improve your memory if used very deliberately.
