Why do people use Bromantane?
People who self-experiment with Bromantane often state they use it to improve their:
- Focus
- Energy
- Mood
- Memory
There is a lack of scientific evidence for the effectiveness of Bromantane for any of these purposes, especially in healthy humans.
Bromantane for cognitive enhancement
In one uncontrolled study on the effects of Bromantane in 10 healthy volunteers, it was concluded that the drug was psychostimulating and:
"... does not alter the subjective state and principal components of operators' performance in untired men but promotes the appearance of EEG-signs of moderate vigilance rise and forming of productive action state coupled with favourable for precise motor performance tremor reduction." [1]
This means that a very small study in healthy humans found Bromantane to improve some aspects of cognitive functioning, specifically the effects of Bromantane were mostly wakefulness-related. It appears based on this study alone that Bromantane can help people who are fatigued and tired to continue to perform at their best.
Bromantane improved the participants' range and stability of attention. [2][3]
It has also enhanced cognition in an animal study. [5]
Bromantane for increased energy levels
Asthenia is a medical condition characterized by weakness and abnormally low energy levels.
In an uncontrolled study on the effects of Bromantane in 728 patients with asthenia, the drug improved symptoms after 3 days. The improvements persisted for the 28 day treatment period, and "remained during one month after the withdrawal of therapy". [6]
Bromantane for improved mood
In people with the condition asthenia, bromantane significantly improved quality of life in 728 patients who received 50-100mg of the drug for 28 days. This improvement persisted one month after stopping the use of the drug. [7] However, this study was not placebo-controlled.
There's some evidence (from an uncontrolled study) on the effects of Bromantane in healthy humans which suggests that it increases wakefulness and cognitive performance. [8] It is likely that improvements in wakefulness and cognition would lead to some improvements in mood, but solid data to confirm the efficacy of Bromantane for mood in healthy humans is severely lacking.
